Union Iron worker with enough pension credits to retire. But I'm to young to quit working. I was laid off Oct 10th. Future work picture looks dim. So its time to consider retirement and starting a 2nd career. But what? I was a C to C+ student in high school 35 years ago. Went straight to work and trade school after high school. time to re-invent my self. I'm requesting prayer.

I will pray.

Is relocating a possibility?
Can you teach metal working, etc. at a local trade school?
Can you work as a general handyman?
Can you network around and see what other trades may be hiring? Can you learn drywall, plumbing, HVAC, anything like that?
Be sure and check www.usajobs.gov for federal govt. jobs.

No brainer.

Take your pension and go to school to learn another trade....or use the time and money to develop your own business.

don't worry about your grades in high school. a lot of people who went back to school later in life do much better.

Absolutely.

Beside that, success in an endeavor has a lot more to do with how much effort you invest in it. If you decide to study something for a second career, do it with gusto and you will do just fine.

My wife was a b student in school. She's in grad school now at 45 yrs old and is usually one of the top students in her various classes.

If you pick something that interests you and really throw yourself into it, you will do just fine.

Best of luck, and don't let it get you down. I've been there- you have to keep a good attitude about it all.

Bt
