Have a great time Yolanda! I hope you catch that rat, Rachel. Today, we're gonna go to the WIC office to get some new vouchers for August since Timmy took them out of my diaper bag and ripped them up a few days ago. And, then we'll be heading to Safeway since we're all on our last sip of juice and milk. Hopefully gonna get some more boxes unpacked, and I'm really hoping the internet is working good this afternoon so I can blog. Man, let me tell you what a mess it was under the kitchen table yesterday with little bits of food and crumbs, but it was so easy to just be able to sweep and Swiffer mop it up because it's lenoleum! At our old place, if something spilled from the table, I'd have to clean it up right away and carpet-sweep or vaccuum.

Awesome, thanks for starting the thread, Christina! I saw our rat a little bit ago. I saw his nasty little hind end moseying underneath our big chair. Hubby turned the chair upside down and ripped the bottom off and we dragged it out to the front porch. We found all the bread inside the chair. Hilarious. I feel horrible this morning. Fighting a sinus infection. My head is completely congested. Nasty.

Rachel - we had a mouse in our apartment (yes I know, different from a rat, but you know me I'm a city girl and a mouse is bad enough!) We put down all sorts of traps that the building manager gave us and this mouse was too smart. Until one night, I left a bag of garbage by the door (where I always leave it to be picked up by hubby in the morning). We're watching tv and all we hear is something trying to get in the bag! Dh grabbed the mop, I grabbed the broom, we opened the door, removed the bag, and out went the mouse!

We had mice, too, for a while. And let me tell you I did not rest until I had found every hole they could enter through, stopped it up, and got monthly pest extermination. That $30 for service is the best money we spend every month for prevention. IMO, that's not a luxury, but a necessity. Critters just don't belong in my home.

It's so hard to keep them out of the house, here. We're surrounded by pasture and have an old house. Do any of you use the electronic plug-in things that emit the ultrasonic waves that are supposed to keep critters away? MIL uses them and she swears by them. So does my Mema. The exterminator said he doesn't think they're effective (of course, he would say that, LOL). I bought some but haven't opened them yet. Oh, my mom has them, too, and they haven't had mice problems.

I've heard good things about them, too, but haven't tried them because my opinion is often very different from what others think. For example, I constantly hear great things about Target, especially their clothes. But our target clothing is a bunch of junk (poorly made with cheap fabrics) that isn't shaped for my body type. So, I'm a bit jaded about taking other's consumer advice.

Today is one of those days when mommy is very tired, so Nathan is getting extra TV time. I feel a little guilty, and I even rested during his nap. Oh well.

My hubby is an exterminator, and he says (sshh) they are semi effective if you use them correctly, like having them on all floors of the house and following the instructions to the T. He says using kill traps is the most effective. Any of you ever watch Verminators on the Discover Channel?

We're thinking about going to a splash pad here in town if it doesn't rain. Do you all have those? They are fountains where you go get wet and play...usually in a park. We discovered them last Summer. Never heard of them before. We love them, but there are occasional cases of people getting tummy viruses if they don't keep them chlorinated enough. Eww ...I might have just talked myself out of going. we used to go to the one at DW all the time after church sunday afternoons (cause they are not very busy then usually...and with seasons passes it was free to get in) I totally forgot about the one at Dollywood! But we always have season passes and I don't remember seeing it the last few years. Something tells me they replaced it with something else. Have you been to Splash Country? It's Dolly's water park that's beside DW. We still haven't been...I can not believe that! Tickets are pretty high and after you've paid for DW season passes, you kind of don't want to fork over much more money. I hear it's great. Last time I was there it was up by the Slidewinder...right by the bee hive (but I know they were talking of changing that whole area when I was there last). we used to hang out there all the time because the mom of the kids I was a nanny for worked at the slide. yes...I have been to SC...many times!!! We had dual park season passes so we went there about three or four times a month at least. I LOVED it...esp the lazy river and the kids section. quote:
ORIGINAL: Room2Grow Sarah- I never even thought about the boots- what a pain for you guys... You could always have him tape bread bags over his boots while he works Or...duct tape patches that he can remove when he leaves the motor pool. Yes, ironing bdu's is/was a PAIN, but these new ones are yuck. They are also changing them way too often- toss salad (what I named them as a child when they first came out- it stuck in our family), then desert cams, now satellite- it gets pretty expensive when you have to buy them yourself! The berets do not make all our guys look like special forces either- to be middle aged and special forces, one must actually be special forces...otherwise you are just a middle aged man in a beret... Special Forces went through the roof when the new berets came out....that used to be a status symbol of all your hard work to earn your beret...now all the army has them. It made SF and regular soldiers very mad that they basically took the pride out of that for SF's. mice/rats...let me tell you, when you have seen a swamp rat then a regular rat looks mighty small and wimpy in comparison!!! Those things are HUGE!!!!! I grew up on the border of Louisiana in swamp country, and my parents house was up off the ground on 3ft "pillars"....and across the street from a river, so they lived under the house no matter what we did. They were huge....bodies alone could get up to about 18-24 inches long...plus the tail. Red beady eyes. really freaky at night. I saw a friend on mine unload a shot gun into one once and it didn't hardly phase it...it just waddled off. He and his brothers would shoot them all the time because they would attack and kill the Emu's that they raised. quote:

So Rachel is the rat still there? I heard good things about the electronic things too. I was tempted to get them after our plague of mice we had, but since fixing the hole in the wall we haven't had any in the house. Nathaniel slept 6 hours!!! WOO HOO!!! Yolanda- have a great trip away!!

We think we are rid of him. Still have a few traps set just in case. And I plugged an electronic thingy into every room. Hopefully, no more mice!

YAY!! Hope they are all gone too!! I just pinched a nerve in my shoulder brushing my hair. I am in so much pain. You would think hubby who has 3 days off would be ok about putting Nath to sleep for me and getting the vegies from the shop for tea. But nooooooo, you would have thought I asked him to cut his arm off the way he is speaking and acting.

We decided not to go to Dh's cousins bbq today and instead we're going to go the library and then go visit the inlaws. We were supposed to go yesterday but Akeelah went down for a nap and by the time she woke up it was too late to go. My FIL is pretty sick so we want to go see how he is doing. Have a nice day ladies!

I must get Nathan outside. He has gotten way to hooked on TV, and I've been trying hard not to use TV to much, but when I'm feeling poorly, it's an easy way to keep him occupied. But these days he'll sit up on the couch, grab the remote and turn on the TV, even though he can't select his favorite shows yet! Ah well, time for a morning walk, before it gets hot.

Hope everyone has a good day. I am trying to get on a schedule but I am having trouble getting it going. Hopefully we can get it figured out soon. Hopefully when I feel better.
