I just watched on dvd a British movie called Dog Soilders. It's a werewolf movie. Has a lot of action, violence and gore, but the werewolves looked like giant walking stuffed animals from a taxidermist shop.

OK...Sideways was a disappointment, IMO.

I knew it was going to be a "slice of life" movie as opposed to some "epic" but it really didn't go anywhere, IMO. I didn't finish it, so I don't know if there was some more important point made towards the end of the movie. The acting is good, and there are a couple of inspired conversations that help explain why some people have a passion for wine (learning all about it, collecting and tasting, not being drunkards, although there are people who get drunk in the film).

The movie is about a couple of guys, ages somewhere between, oh, say 35 and late 40's, who have been best friends for years. One is an aspiring novelest and wine collector who was divorced a couple of years ago and still hasn't really accepted it; the other is an actor who never really hit the big time, who was in one or two tv sries but now does commercials; the actor is getting married soon. The two are traveling around California's wine country just prior to the actor's marriage. The writer seems to view the trip as a chance to bond with his old friend; the actor seems to view it as his chance to get crazy and find a girl with which to have a last fling before getting married.

I don't really recommend it unless you like (serious, not comedy) slice-of-life films about folks that, if not total losers, are pretty much underachievers.

For grown ups only, due to sporatic bad language and adult situations.

There were parts I enjoyed from that movie. I really started to dislike all the lying and cheating in the middle, but by the end I really liked the way it reaffirmed their oddball friendship. The two characters were very real in that way.

I wouldn't really call them losers (one was a teacher and aspiring writer, the other a working but low level actor who planned on joining his FILs business for stability), but they were your garden variety non-christians with no probs with things like lying, fornication, porn, etc.

I think it would make a better short story than movie.

Last night I saw the Japanese version of Shall We Dance? It was sweet. The main character reminded me a lot of Gary Cooper. I would recommend it.

Ocean's Twelve

Definitely not as good as the original, mostly because they kept too much of the "secret" a secret - not enough clues.

But the Julia Roberts/Bruce Willis scene is hilarious!

I saw it when it came out in Theatres and I was definetly Disapointed in it because the first one was great but the second one wasn't as good. But Matt Damon was Hilarrious and the Julia Robertd/ Bruice Willis Scene was funny to.

totally agree with Ocean 12- a real dissapointment. I love the first one but the second one was just painful to watch. The Julia Roberts/Bruce Willis scene was the only best part of the movie.

Sahara - I don't even know how to begin, or where to begin, in describing how horrible this movie is. I've read a few Clive Cussler books, so I was familiar with the scenario, but it is just flat-out dumb. Preposterous. I enjoy a good action flick, but as my dad said, "Indiana Jones, this is not." More holes than Day After Tomorrow, I'd summarize the plot, but there's about 20 of them, none of which work, much less cohese in any believable way. It was just embarrassingly awful. Dumb dumb dumb.

I also watched the sequel to Meet the Parents, the title of which I refuse to say, the name joke was tired before the first movie even ended. It wasn't a funny movie, I didn't laugh once - the bit after the truth syrum, where he's talking about his wife, made me smile. I didn't think I would find it all that funny, but I didn't expect it to be so unfunny. Excellent performances by the cast, but it only shows the greatness of the actors, and what they can do with a bland, insipid script/plot line. DeNiro, anytime more than one person on SNL can imitate you, it's time to call it quits. And the male nurse joke, tired. Oh, and the part where Babs spits into her glass was funny, but only because it was Barbara Streisand spitting. Not a bad movie, per se, a lot of "heart," but nowhere near as funny as it was touted to be (and nowhere near funny at all, if'n you ask me).

I watched Gangs of New York. I didn't bother previously because I don't like Cameron Diaz or Leonardi DiCaprio (and this movie only bolstered that feeling), and nothing that I saw in trailers or read in reviews piqued my interest. It was an unfocused movie, Scorcese needed to stick to one or two story lines, and let us get drawn into those. I won't comment on the technical faults - except for the accents. Seriously, people, if you can't carry an accent throughout the entire film, DON'T BOTHER. DiCaprio and Diaz's accents were just a joke - when they remembered to have one. I was drawn in for the first 30-50 minutes, but by the end had lost interest.

Dark Days, however, saved me (Documentarian Marc Singer focuses his camera on a group of homeless people who live deep underground in an abandoned New York City railroad tunnel. By day, they scavenge for food on the mean streets of Manhattan. At night, they retreat to the tunnel, where they've built huts out of scrap metal, plastic and plywood. Amazingly, they have electricity, furniture, working kitchens and a sense of community many surface dwellers would envy.) I had to stop watching after about 30 minutes, it was emotionally draining. I finished it yesterday, and it was very rewarding. I feel vested in the characters. It highlighted a struggle to make light in a dark place, the triumph of the proverbial "human spirit." I even watched the making of doc and the film with commentary, both just as satisfying - even more so, as it shed further light on the subject matter.

I hated this film as well. I wasn't concerned with anyone in the movie. The story just kind of--i dunno--passed me by. The violence was pretty nasty too. The only thing good I feel needs to be said about the movie was Daniel Day-Lewis's performance was stunning and frightening. He absorbed that role and it was fascinating to watch. That's all.

Yes, and recommended it - well, on the CW forums. Love that movie. Patricia Clarkson is one of my favourite actresses, she is one of the most versatile (and I mean that, in the sense she inhabits every character she plays) women on screen in recent history. Bobby Canvale(s?) is also very good. And Michelle Williams is the only WB "star" worth a hoot. And...argh, I forget his name...Peter something? Lead guy, he has a great face, one look at the camera spoke more than most actors do with a whole monologue. And he's hot.

It's a perfect movie, you'll laugh, you'll cry - "it's better than Cats!"

I loved it too. I think he has a silly last name like Dinklage or Dinklehiemer...*laughing* I thought he was very handsome and his quiet demeanor in the movie spoke volumes. I loved the screenplay. The story was so yummy and sweet, I could have watched it for hours and hours. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I saw Dark Days a month or so ago. The one part that really bothered me was the one guy who kept a bunch of dogs penned up in the tunnel. Those poor things probably have never seen the sunlight, and he wasn't taking care of them either, which is no surprise as he didn't take care of himself either due to being a junkie. Really bothers me being a dog lover.

Of course it was sad to see the dogs down there, but hardly as sad as the people. I missed the part where he was a junkie. The only footage of the dogs was him feeding them, or shoveling their excrement - if they were "upstairs," odds are they'd just be killed. I was curious what happened to the dogs, upon their eviction.

Lemony Snickets Series of Unfortunate Events

This one was a bit slow in my opinion.

I saw The Aviator at the $1.50 theater Saturday with a couple of friends. It was longer than we expected -- over three hours -- and very intense in places. Leonardo DiCaprio's portrayal of Howard Hughes is just about as far from his Titanic role as he could get, I think. I thought he did a good job, to the point that seeing Hughes' descent into obsessive-compulsive disorder was very disturbing. I kept thinking that it was really too bad they didn't have Prozac back then, because there was very little anyone could do to help him.

The part of the movie where Hughes rallies to attend a Senate investigation started by a Senator who is secretly helping Hughes' biggest competitor at Pan Am is a total hoot because he unexpectedly makes the Senator look like a fool.

I really enjoyed Cate Blanchett's portrayal of Katherine Hepburn, and Kate Beckinsale was good as Ava Gardner. Gwen Stefani's Jean Harlow was pretty much a bit part, though. There were several actors in this pic that I didn't know were in it and was surprised to see them: Alec Baldwin, Willem Dafoe, and Alan Alda. In one scene where Hughes is bothered by a piece of lint on a man's lapel, it suddenly hit me who the actor with the lint on his lapel was, and I elbowed my friend next to me and whispered, "It's DATA!" Brent Spiner, that is.

A well-made movie overall, but not one I'd recommend to everybody. Lots of bad language, especially for the time period.

Walking Tall...with The Rock. Lot's of backside kicking. Me like. *GRUNT*

King Arthur, Director's Cut. A new spin on Arthur, Merlin, Gwennevyr and the Knights of the Round Table. Beginning of film mentions new archelogical evidence. I will have to research that, but overall they tried to place Arthur in more of a historical setting. A very enjoyable film without all of the magic.

The Avaitor is on my Blockbuster Online que.

Five Star Stories is on the way; should get it this afternoon or tomorrow. Sent back Nausicaa and Sideways today, so I hope to get Lemony Snickett and About Schmidt (the last one being hubby's request, not usually a film I'd go for) this week.

The Blade series went on a downward spiral. I couldn't understand why all the constant profanity in the last one. Ryan Reynolds was a mistake, trying to be humourous just didn't work. And Dracula was the worst of all. Major disappointment.

I seriously doubt it.

Anyone remotely interested in seeing the abomination that is Sahara should check out the reviews at rottentomato.com first.

Some of them are so hilarious (and exactly what I thought) I had to blog them - and it was only from the first page of reviews!

"This plot would be scary if it wasn’t so ludicrous, and the science behind the whole danger is so preposterous that it makes the drivel spilt by the doctors on “General Hospital” sound accurate."

"Even the brain-dead "National Treasure" tried harder than this."

"Under even modest scrutiny, the plot makes even less sense than the action."

"Adventure novelist Clive Cussler swore off Hollywood for 25 years after watching it turn his best-selling "Raise the Titanic" into a shipwreck back in 1980.

He should have kept waiting."

Hooooo boy, there's some seriously funny stuff there.

I always read rottentomatoes for movie reviews. You come across some really clever quotes when one is trashing a movie.

I stumbled upon it back when Phantom Menace came out. Some of the reviews were laugh-out-loud hilarious!

Now, whenever a bad movie comes out, if I have time I like to go read what people are saying about it, never fails to amuse. Esp. the ones from lesser-known reviewers/sites.

Well, I'm not a very picky movie goer - I like a lot of movies - and I liked Sahara (ducks to avoid flaming arrows!).

Anyway, we rented 3 movies this weekend! (we just a got a new big screen tv so we HAD to try it out).

Bowfinger - it was kinda funny, but pretty dumb overall.

Meet the Parents Sequel - I actually thought it was hilarious (except of the last name & male nurse jokes were definitely tired).

Hotel Rwanda - absolutely excellent!!!!! 5*'s
