We had a great day yesterday. Except Nick was a miserable pain in the toochas the entire time, made worse by the fact that he wouldn't take a badly needed nap. I've already told Brian that he may not leave the house today without him.

It's been a long week, with Brian working on the VBS float every single night and not taking the kids with him, so they could get it done faster. Well, they got it done, it was awesome, and they won a prize. Our float was by FAR the best one in the parade, not that that's what the purpose was...but that's pretty cool too. The purpose of so much effort into the float was to advertise our VBS and make people want to send their kids. I heard several comments from people at the parade about our church, float, and VBS, so hopefully it will bring in lots of kids who don't go to church, and later on...their whole families.

Mrs Tracy,

I live in Western PA (I think I have mentioned it) and would you believe that one of my co-workers is going to Antieman / Sharpsburg for the weekend for a graduation party? I think it was neat that I was thinking about the area and remembering the fun we had because I was posting to you, and then she was talking about going to the same place and it was fresh in my mind.

Cool about the fireworks. I'm glad they were worth the effort to get there.

I never saw them in person as a child and I realize how much I love them now. Thursday we went to Walmart and I told Poppa we HAD to go to Dairy Queen because the flavor of the month is THIN MINT!!! We were in the lot at 9:30 and heard booming and saw flashes. Of course that towns fireworks were in the direction of DQ. We decided to try and get through town. In our town the roads are closed, so we didn't know what to expect. Turns out this town uses the university stadium that sits on top of the hill. The road drops below it. So, we drove toward them, and then under them, and then stood at DQ on the next hill, looking back at them. It was so neat!

And, another place was setting off private ones on the way home. We called it Drive-thru fireworks.

Oh momma_bee how funny. We just got into Maryland. We are in Haggerstown tonight. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day for us so I am going to go to bed early tonight. One thing I hate about driving is that we sit so long and then eat way too much. I feel like I shoved triple food in my body for dinner tonight, but I was soooo hungry. Anyway, I can't wait for tomorrow, then it is off to DC.

Boyd's bears is out there, and I found Kmart or was it Walmart pretty easily.

Aren't those turning lanes fun?

To make lefts at our hotel, you needed to turn right and go up to a U-turn lane and wait for the light and then make a U-ie.

It is neat that you are posting from your vacation and so sweet that you have thought of us.

Thanks momma! We are trying to take the kids out during the day and come back to the hotel for eating and swimming at night so that nobody is overwhelmed. Plus when we get to Williamsburg, we do have night programs scheduled each night for them. We didn't make it to Gettysburg but we did make it to Antietam and it was wonderful. I loved how they had a memorial with a cannon pointed down where a general died. It was also so quiet. We got there in the morning and it was kind of hazy and I think that really set the mood. It was interesting to see the church and the cemetery. I love old cemeteries and reading the headstones. I even like bing in the cemetery where my family is buried because it is just so peaceful and quiet. I know, kind of weird, but I do love it.

Anyway, we are now in DC and we got out into the city today. We went and saw all there was to see on foot, then over to one of the museums. The air and space one. It was cool. Then we found this service that will deliver food from almost any resturaunt in the city for only $4.00 plus tip of course, but that means we don't have to take a chance and go out into neigborhoods that we don't know. I am told that if we go one block in the wrong direction, we could be in trouble, so I think that it is worth the $4.00. Tonight it is going to be breakfast for dinner and we are going to order from IHop.

So I hope you are all doing well. I am ready for bed!

Tracy - go to the natural history Smithsonian!!

It has a HUGE elephant in the main lobby.. My favorite spot to go when we'd go into DC.

I also love to just sit/walk around the lawn in front of the Washington monument. you never know what you will see!!

My favorite spot in DC is the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials. I have an uncle on the wall, so that makes it special for us. The statues in the area are so realistic they just make me want to cry. The evening we saw the Korean War statues for the first time was incredible. They looked like ghosts walking out of the mist, it was just soooo, soooo - intense, incredible - just can't describe it.

Hey all!

Sounds like your having a great trip Tracy! We've never traveled to the DC area. I've been to Boston a couple times and New York City once But never to DC. We'll have to make that trip sometime in the next several years.

We just finished day 2 of Theatre camp. Ty's having a good time with it and I guess it is pretty intense! Today while Ty was at camp Aryn, Ethan and I went to the Mall. Didn't buy anything, but Aryn stopped by Build a Bear for something and I got my glasses adjusted and cleaned. While we were there a pretty bad storm rolled through. Our area got between 2 and 4 inches in a matter of an hour! Lots of flash flooding and road closures. I had to go out of town a different way then I wanted to because of flooded intersections. But as quickly as it rolled in, it rolled on into Ohio.

Zoe spent pretty much all day with a neighborhood friend. I guess they were bouncing off the walls a bit. I think I'll keep her with me tomorrow!

Brian's back to work for now. They even hired about 15 new workers that might not last through August. I'm not sure how long he's going to be working but I PRAY it's for a LONG time.

I'm off to dish up some potato soup for the kids and I. It's a new recipe so I'll let you know if it's any good!

Blessings,

Garsy

Wow you guys!

We did get to go to some of the Smithsonian museums, but not the natural history one. We totally missed the Viet Nam memorial, but the Korean memorial was neat. We saw it during the day though so it didn't have the misty thing going, but when we went to Antitam though, that was so weird. It was early in the morning, misty, quiet and just somber.

Today we did visit the Washington Monument. I actually went up in it and didn't flip out. I have this anxiety thing going and am afraid of heights. We also had a tour of the Whitehouse. It was totally not what I expected. We only got to see a few of the rooms, and it was self guided. I thought it would be way different than it was with what we had to go through to get tickets.

We also went to see the changing of the guard at Arlington. That was different. Everyone I talked to said it was so emotional and moving, and to me it was just a military thing. I hope that doesn't offend anyone, but I guess that with family in Iraq and going to one funeral of a soldier, it didn't hit me like those things do.

But yes, we are having a great time and tomorrow we are leaving DC and going to Williamsburg. But we are going to stop at Mt. Vernon along the way. So off to a new adventure I guess.

MrsTracy-It sounds like you are having a very nice vacation!

We've wandered around DC several times, but we haven't had the time to truly "tour" for over 10 years. Since DS is a Social Studies Major, we really need to schedule some time to play tourist in the near future.

My feet are tired and I would love to soak them in some hot water, however, the hot water heater is on vacation today due to a severe thunderstorm yesterday. Thankfully I had enough warm water for a shower before work today.

Julia,

Sorry about your hot water heater. My husband wants to get one of those Flash heaters that heat the water as it runs through so you don't have to keep it running all of the time. Is yours electric that a storm took it out?

We are having a good vacation. One of the things I learned for next time is that the White House tour isn't nearly as great as the tour of the capitol, but when you go to request your tickets, ask to be let into the Senate Gallery. We were there and they were supposed to put something to a vote, but they were running late and so we didn't get to see it, but one of the guards was talking to another how they thought they had to wait for Cheney. Our tour guide told us that he only comes to the votes when there is a tie and he has to break it. But I think the vote was on all that spy stuff that they are all up in arms about because the president supposedly is wiretapping people illegally. It was interesting, but I was wanting to jump down and slap some of those people up for their conduct. But then again, not only would that have gotten me kicked out and arrested, but my conduct would have been no better than theirs. But you know what I mean. It was just hard to watch all of these well educated and articulate adults act like kids. That is a better way to put it.

Today we are in Colonial Williamsburg and I can't wait to get out there. Our hotel manager told me there is a starbucks in the town and I so very much need some caffiene and having it in the form of a skinny latte will also give me that much needed calcium.

So I hope you are all well. Garcy, I also hope that hubby's job does last for a LONG time. I know how it feels when your hubby has an unstable job.

Have a great day everyone!

Jeepers!

Just got a call from my mom last night. My niece that went to Niagara with Aryn, got a spider bite while she was here and had to have it lanced! Apparently it got infected and it was just a mess! Poor Baby! Tough little girl tho. She had a softball game two days after having it lanced and played! She just wasn't in the batting line-up!

THEN my dufus of a nephew decided to see if he could fly. Seriously! He is 12 and decided to take his skateboard of the roof of the garage. STUPID KID! Thankfully he was wearing a helmet! He did end up breaking his nose and a wrist. I guess he really mess up his wrist and it might require surgery. If he has to have surgery it will take place this coming week and he'll have to miss church camp next week! Poor, stupid kid!

Now all they need up there is for my pregnant sister to go into the hospital the weekend of the family reunion! She's due right about that time, but her doc thinks she's going to have the baby earlier!

Blessings,

Garsy

Hopefully we will have hot water very soon!! I washed my hair at the swimming pool shower, however, it was cold water so only my head was bathed. My poor dh is swamped at work and trying to tend to this repair. Prayers would be appreciated.

Ohhh Garcy!!!! Sorry about the spider bite. That happened to my friends son. ICK! And your nephew! What was he thinking? Oh wait, he is 12. Never mind. I read this to my husband while Jake was here and he is also 12. He said that sounds like something he would do. My husband said that he would be dead before he even hit the ground when I saw him. Probably true.

What did your sis/in law do? Are the injuries punishment enough or is he in deeper trouble later? Wow!

Julia, sorry your hot water doesn't work yet. What did that storm do to it to break it? I thought you might just not have electricity.

Today we spent the day just roaming around Williamsburg. It was nice, but I have been gone too long and want to go home.

Just to verify the pregnant sister ISN'T the mother of my nephew or niece that I spoke of in that post! Sis is however a neighbor of my brother whose boy is the nut that jumped off the roof, and she was one of the first on the scene.

Nephew's mom and and my brother are divorced but living in the same house (LONG VERY LONG confusing story), and Mom I guess flipped when my sister sent my younger nephew down to get his mom! Older nephew has a real big problem with thinking before he does something. I'm pretty sure 6 to 8 weeks in a cast AFTER surgery and that cutting into football season AND the fact that he'll no longer be able to help an area farmer bale hay and earn over $100 a week! That in and of itself is punishment enough!

We've spent the week exploring the gardens around our counties extension offices. Master gardeners and an on staff horticulturist take care of probably 2 acres of gorgeousness! And even better they are roughly a half mile from where Ty's theatre camp is held. The Horticulturist was trying to talk me into enrolling the kids in 4H. I've considered it - but we are already busy enough.

Blessings,

Garsy

Water heaters are very sensitive to lightning and where we live, the water heaters tend to be in the crawl spaces under houses. They seem to be very vulnerable when it comes to power surges from lightning since they are electric and full of water.

Garsy-I'm glad that your nephew was not killed (and I made sure that my 12 year old was aware that it was not a very bright idea to attempt such a thing). I hope that he heals quickly.

Mrs.Tracy-what was your favorite thing in Williamsburg?

Mrs.Tracy-what was your favorite thing in Williamsburg?

So far it is alot to take in. We have been doing evening programs and they are wonderful. We did an 18th century play, an African Music thing, Storytelling, and tomorrow is the Gunpowder Event. Not a clue what that is going to be, but it sounded good. I know I am not fond of the food they give you so I am sticking to pizza and hot dogs which is good because it is expensive to eat at the taverns here, especially for not liking what you get.

I think my favorite thing is that my kids are really getting into it and starting to get along. Kali even made a friend tonight and it turns out they are one floor above us in the same hotel.

I love everything here and all that I am learning. It is amazing how much you forget in school, and how much they don't tell you. I could stay here for the entire summer if time and money allowed.

Kathy, I am sorry you are sick. Hopefully you just have some virus that is dragging you down. Hopefully you aren't depressed. Lots of people end up with that not knowing it. How weird but it happens. Anyway, will remember you in prayer. I do hope your appointment goes well.

Hi all,

Kath, I just wanted to add my prayers to everyone elses.

As for the Quinn's, dd#1 left for camp today. I miss her. She will be gone until middle of Friday. The twins are just lost without big sister.

The twins finish summer school on Wednesday, so I will have to get some activities together for them so they don't start regressing. Dh will have to do them with the girls.

I have 3 more days of classroom for my school and then its out to internship. Tomorrow we have a written final and I need to get on the studying.

So that's about it for us.
Take care my friends, my love to you all,
Kim Q
