Yachaddm, I have the Medela swing and like it just fine. It is a single electric. From what I understand it is as good as the Pump in Style. The PIS lets you pump both sides at the same time which can really come in handy when you don't want to pump one side for 15-20 mins and then the other for 15-20 mins. Also, when your milk lets-down it usually lets down on both sides so it's better to capture this with both sides at the same time. The Swing runs around 150 and the PIS is somewhere over 200. I chose medela because I heard it's easier to find and order replacement parts like breastshields.

Did/does anyone else notice a supply problem with their period?

I never had one while I was BFing but I can imagine with all the hormones that it's possible to effect your supply. I've been absent for a while so I'm going around to my favorite threads and trying to play catch up. Gideon and I have 3 1/2 months of full supply under our belts now. He still has to eat more than some babies his age (still every 2-3 hours) but still, it's going well. He is a great nurser. A little too good in fact, I can't get him to take bottle or formula and I don't have enough to spare to pump extra right now. Since my DH left on deployment ladies from church have volunteered to watch the kids for me once a week for a few hours but I still can't leave him because he'll only take me.

For the occasional pumper who isn't concerned about cost, I would suggest the Medela Double Select (I think that's the name of it) or even the Pump In Style (this one you would use for more traveling/everyday use). The main reason I feel this way is you just never know...you may end up pumping more than you think. And even for the occasional pumping, Medela is just a really great pump. I borrowed the Double Select for the first couple of months and liked it. But when she was 2 months, I bought the Pump In Style and haven't regretted it! With all of our trips to the Children's Hospital and even just day trips to see my SIL or friends, I can easily pack it up and go! Erin, it might be stess or lack of sleep. Can you take a nap during the day? Also I've heard sleeping on your back can lessen your supply; while sleeping on your stomach can help increase it. I feel like when he's able to nurse, you'll have a great increase. Keep up the good work!!!

Erin- I've been offline for a couple of days, but just wanted to say WAY TO GO on the supply you've built up! I'll be praying whatever issues you're having now get straightened out quickly.

LC said not to lay on breasts if you are having supply issues. Makes sense to me. When I have a huge letdown and kiddo pops off and its spraying everywhere I put pressure on it for a few seconds and the flow stops.

Kim, I offered Lincoln a bottle (water) a couple of times and he wouldn't have any part of it. He treated it like a pacifier, spit it out and pushed it away with his hands. He has liked the sippy cup though. I try to have a sippy of water when we're out just in case I need to put something in his mouth if he gets fussy. He'll only drink a tablespoon of water, but he does like holding the cup. I started offering both babies water at 4 months. Both my kids have actually liked the cheap, smaller, take-n-toss cups better than the big, fancy handled ones. It makes sense to me, because babies who hold their own bottles are holding a more slender, handle-less item. The take-n-toss stack nicely and take up less precious space in my cupboard too. Erin, you are doing wonderfully. How much is your little man drinking? You probably don't *need* a huge supply yet. Isaacs little tummy can probably only handle a few ounces a day.

I bought a tea as well (similar to Mother's Milk ... just a different name). The 'instructions' say to steep for at least 6 minutes, and drink 4-5 cups per day. I threw a teabag into the coffeepot this morning (it's how I keep my tea hot all day), let it steep for a good hour, I'd say ... and have been drinking that off and on all day. As for the fenugreek, my midwife said 3 capsules, 3 times per day. Same with blessed thistle if you end up getting that as well.

ORIGINAL: SweetLittleErin Isaac is currently getting (today that is, it goes up everyday) 18mls every feeding (every 3 hours). But I was told I needed to get my supply up now. The LC said to try to get over 750mls a day...I'm doing good to get 600mls right now. Naps...yeah...usually not able to happen. I bought some mothers milk tea and fenugreek. Now...tell me what to do with it! haha. How much to take etc. Erin, you should try to drink 5 cups of the Mother's Milk Tea per day. I used to make a pitcher of it and keep it in the fridge. Then I could drink a cup cold or stick it in the microwave to have hot tea. I am taking Fenugreek at 4 capsules 3 times daily. Now of course, it also depends on the strength of the capsule but I've never heard of anyone overdosing on Fenugreek. ;) Most women start to smell like maple syrup and I've been told and read that if you don't you aren't taking enough. After a while the smell goes away/you get used to it and you don't notice it anymore. I get my suppliments from www.swansonvitamins.com. I get a 100 count fenugreek for $1.99 there instead of paying $8-9 for a 90 count bottle in town. They also have $5 S&H no matter how much you order and the shipments come very quickly. Good luck!

The Mother's Milk Tea is good, but it's also expensive! I would definitely recommend getting some More Milk Plus, any Whole Foods/Vitamin Cottage/Wild Oats/Trader Joes will carry it and, IMO, it will work better then the tea. Here is the info for Whole Foods in Little Rock- quote:

Yep, I just used about 3 bags and let it steep in a pot until cool then transfered it to a juice pitcher to keep in the fridge. A lot easier then making a cup of tea every time - up to five times a day. The fenugreek that I take is 610mg as well. Go here. I also started at 2 capsules but it didn't work until I got up to 4. What I would recommend is starting at 4x3 to get the effect then start to cut back and see how low you can go. That way your not wasting time waiting to see it if works. Fenugreek is a fast working suppliment though. When I got up to a working dose I would often take it and notice a difference in an hour or two. I've also heard that you should take it on an empty stomach but it gave me a bellyache so I take it at meals. It may not be as potent that way however. Are you using a hospital grade pump? That can make a big difference. Not only how much you get per pumping but also in whether or not it increases, maintains or allows your supply to decrease.

p.s. Erin, you may find that your doctor would be willing to write you a scrip for Reglan. It will likely work to boost your supply but one of the potential side effects is PPD (yet they are often unaware or don't bother to mention it when they give it to you). With all that you have going on right now I would not be willing to take the risk. That's me personally, especially if the natural suppliments do the trick.

Domperidone doesn't have the PPD side effort or the sleepy-head side effect. Though it might have others, I'm not sure. I just know if you can't take Reglan for those reasons, then Domperidone might work.

My doc has prescribed Reglan for me for pre-migraine relief (ie it averts the migraine), and I don't get either depression or sleepiness with it. Then again, I've never taken it for more than 2 consecutive days.
