How sad that the American marathon runner (woman) had to drop out so quickly due to injury. I hope she's ok.

Young Korean girl was great on the gym vault, so was the Chinese but the Korean won. Didn't get the name.

I had to watch it on the Canadian channel because NBC wasn't going to broadcast it except online, and I wasn't sure how long the triathlon was (the ironmans can go on for 14 hours +). I wish the course took them more out on the road than a loop in front of the spectators though.
I did see the crash though, ouch.
So it ended at midnight eastern time which was my limit.

That crash looked bad ~ they never said how the casualties were. I know one was holding her wrist.
It is a pity there were so many laps, but I guess they had to take into account the roads and hills in the area. I think in 2012 it's going to be in Hyde Park and that will be pretty.

The canadian girl did break her wrist. I think the others are ok, just bruised and shocked. They're taught how to fall and they weren't on concrete.

They may be taught how to fall, but some of them seemed to travel a fair distance ~ and learning something is no substitute for the real thing ~ things like that can shake the most experienced up. I hope the Canadian wrist isn't badly broken (ie that she doesn't need an op to reset it etc).

Yup, straight over the handle bars, I saw that! Ouch! Eeven if you know how to fall and have been taught you can't always execute what you've been taught on the spur of the moment. It takes a lot of drills to get it into your muscle memory and I don't imagine it would be that big a deal with cycling. People don't usually fall cycling. It's unexpected so falling would not be so natural.

How is it that Cheng Fei can land on her knees in the second vault and get a higher score than Alicia Sacramone to win the bronze? One of the commentators on NBC called it a "rip off".

Possibly difficulty levels and while she landed on her knees, I think there's a set number of points you lose for a bad landing, or any other fault. It may have been the only thing that she lost marks for in that was the landing. Sacramone could have lost marks for different elements of the vault.
No one ever thinks that the approach is important ~ but you can lose marks for that too apparently!
I think that the two marks they're given for each of their jump are averaged too and this may have put her ahead. I think it was a Russian who went before the green light (from the judges saying they were ready) was on and she performed a brilliant jump but scored 0.0 because of it.
