ORIGINAL: johnny103068 Samson it sounds like your're saying we need to endure the hard times when we see our peers with children and spouses. I am not sure if you have listened to the messages ... and I am not speaking for Samson in anyway .... but if you listen to the message you will hear that the covetousness comes when we yield to that desire. And when you dwell on that desire yielding is only a matter of time. (The more you dwell on what you do not have and desire, the more discontentment, and even bitterness fill your heart ... you begin to feel like God has forgotten you because you do not have what you desire.) As you dwell on a desire, covetousness inflates the pleasure and importance of that desire; causing us to loose all perspective on what is real. He asks the question: Is yielding a big deal really? Desiring is not doing and looking is not buying. Is desiring dwelling? What's the harm in really? Why would God put me in the wilderness for wanting other thing? He then answers: At the root of covetousness is a rejection of God's sufficiency. God had provided for the Israelites everything they actually needed as they walked with Him in the wilderness. He gave them the manna to eat, and gave them water from the rocks, yet it was not enough. The more they dwelt on what they did not have, the more bitter their complaint became ... they even told God He did it wrong. They essentially told God His provision was not god enough for them. God wants to know if you will be grateful and satisfied with Him and the provisions He gives to you. I see a direct parallel to the art of walking with God as a single person. It is easy to look at those with lovely families and want more than what we have, but He is enough. The manna was given to the Israels as a test. (Deut. 8:16) God wanted to know if they would gratefully take God's provision or would they take it for granted and demand more ... in the same way God provides for our needs as single people. Do we look to Him for everything with a grateful heart or do we dwell on what we do not have, a husband or wife and children? Do we use our gifts that could have been used to nurture children we might have raised in the lives of the young people He brings our way or do we just keep those gifts to ourselves because the pain is too much to see others have something we do not have. Are we satisfied with what He has given us or do we want something more and better and different? If you read the singles folder for very long you will hear hearts yearning so much for something they do not have right now in this moment to the point of bitterness and discontentment. He promises to fill our every need in His perfect timing. I think Samson was attempting to encourage those of us who are single in their walk with God. It is not an endurance of hard times if you change the way you look at your circumstances. You can stay in the place of coveting what you do not have and feel the pain of loss as you walk as a single person. Or you can look at what you do have with a grateful heart, asking God to help you change your heart on the matter if needed, and walk a more fulfilling rich life as a single person. Edited to add: (If you enjoy the first two messages, he has the third set up for today. It is all part of a 11 part series called "Lord Change My Attitude" which can be accessed by the site provided.)

These aren't messages just a couple of devotionals I thought I'd share. I like the one from Greg Laurie regarding being filled with the Holy Spirit. I usually pray to be lead by the Holy Spirit in the morning, but not filled. This is something I'm going to look into more. I didn't think we needed to pray to be filled daily.. Letting God Lead Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit. --Ephesians 5:18 In the Christian life we often try in our own strength to do what God has called us to do. We think, I've got to keep God's commandments and resist temptation and love my spouse and. . . . It is hard stuff. But when we say, "Lord I can't do this on my own. I just ask that your Holy Spirit would fill me and help me to do these things," we will realize that doing what God tells us to do can actually become a delight rather than mere duty. The Bible says, "Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18). The word "filled" used here carries multiple meanings, one of which is wind filling a sail. So to be filled with the Spirit means being carried along by, and under the control of, Jesus Christ. The word "filled" in this verse also speaks of something that is continuous. So effectively, this verse is saying, "Be filled over and over and over and over again with the Holy Spirit." Another way the word "filled" could be translated is "to permeate," the way salt was packed into meat to preserve it. So to "be filled with the Holy Spirit," means that we need to let the Holy Spirit permeate our lives and everything we do. Let the Holy Spirit permeate your prayer life, your worship life, your business, your marriage, and the way you treat others. So a good habit to develop is to get up in the morning and say, "Lord, fill me with the Spirit today. Help me to be permeated by the Spirit. Help me to be led by the Spirit. Help me to obey what the Spirit leads me to do." Copyright © 2009 by Harvest Ministries. All rights reserved. The Nature of Discouragement Psalm 16:7-11 Discouragement is a powerful, destructive force. Before we can understand how to rid our lives of this deadly landmine, we must recognize its harmful nature. Understand that discouragement... 1. Is something we choose. Nobody else can make us discouraged; it is a choice that we alone make when facing disappointments. 2. Is universal. Everybody will face periods of disappointment and discouragement from time to time. This simply cannot be avoided, because we live in a seriously flawed world that is filled with equally flawed people. 3. Can recur. Sometimes we think we've settled an issue, which later resurfaces when we least expect it. Or, we may have old emotional wounds that are torn open by something a person says or does. 4. Can be temporary--or it can destroy our life. The choice is ours. If we refuse to deal with discouragement head-on, we are opening the door for it to completely dominate our life. 5. Is conquerable. With the Lord's help, we can choose not to be discouraged. If we don't believe discouragement can be conquered, then we're actually saying that God doesn't want His children to have a rich and fulfilled life. Are you stuck in the throes of discouragement? If so, it will simply be impossible to experience the peace and inner joy that God wants for His children. Let Him help you out of that lowly state: start by believing that the Father wants to lift you up and get your life back on track with Him. I got this from a facebook friend..... I will expound at another time. But just wanted to share a text message I sent to a dear sister this morning, in hopes that you, sister would be encouraged, and you brother, will be challenged to examine perhaps a faulty notion of beauty and/or cherish a beautiful sister. "For many months now, I have been wrestling with this concept of beauty and rendering myself guilty of falling way short of it externally. Yet, I do believe 1 Peter 3:3,4 "Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear—4but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious." So, this morning in my wrestles, I thought of this: the Lord Jesus keeping silent, on the way to Golgotha and on the cross, in the face of persecution, is the epitome of a gentle and quiet spirit. His peace was steadfast in the midst of being sinned against in wicked opposition, because His trust in the Father was steadfast. He entrusted Himself to the One Who judges justly (1 Pet 2:21-23), knowing that His incarnation and death was KINDLY appointed by God Himself. Now, if we would just rest in that, there we will find the secret to gentleness and quietude in spirit. Know that every trying circumstance, even being sinned against is KINDLY appointed by God, who will judge justly. If we entrust ourselves to the Lord and filter everything through a biblical mindset, there the peace that surpasses all understanding will be manifested. And therein lies true, authentic beauty! : ) It is not merely external. Our braids, jewelry and clothing, does not make us excellent, dear sisters. Nor does it impress the Lord. He sees what is unseen, and delights in a soul that trusts in Him (Hebrews 11:6).We can trust in Him because He is wholly trustworthy. Is He not? The soul that does this is the soul "which in God's sight is very precious" (end of text). Dear sisters, let us calmly trust our Lord, who appoints ALL things to work together for the good of those who love Him and called according to His purpose. If you are found in Christ, then that verse is yours : ) In the immediate context of 1 Peter 3, Peter was exhorting Roman, women who were facing mistreatment from their unbelieving husbands, to cultivate a gentle and a quiet spirit. This steadfast peace is derived only from a steadfast trust in the One Who is steadfast in good character. His goodness is found in the gift of giving His Son, in order to receive forgiveness of sins. So then all the more, He will be faithful to give us the grace and power to not respond sinfully to a frustrating providence, to a person who wronged you, which is in fact ordained by Him. Sisters, we must come to understand that all things, even the evil, are not from man, but from the good hand of God, ordered by His love and wisdom. If we consider this, we will then meekly receive and quietly submit to them. A woman, who treasures these things in her heart, is a woman who is adorned with a gentle and quiet spirit. Christ has died that we may live to righteousness in every circumstance. He kept silent in order that we may live and be beautiful! All to His glory! I understand all too well, the internal and external pressures of attaining beauty. And its chasing after the wind to try to live up to such vain standards. The Lord has promised great things for you, dear sisters in Christ. He has promised us Himself if we set our minds and hearts to seek after Him, counting all things as rubbish in order to know Christ. Let’s become familiar with this beautiful Person, Jesus. Let’s acquaint ourselves with His promises, with His Word, and submit to His loving providences. A woman, who hangs her soul on, becoming occupied with the Person and work of the Lord Jesus, is a woman most beautiful in the eyes of God and man. Join me in seeking repentance of complaining, unrighteous anger, murmuring and questioning our God, in hopes to turn to Him in steadfast trust. Be encouraged, dear sister. Fight to lay aside every vain and wayward thought, and coax your soul to hope in God. Feast on Isaiah 26:3 as the secret to cultivating this gentle and quiet spirit, growing more and more beautiful. Maybe not outwardly, but it will be outwardly exhibited, powerfully affecting souls for all eternity (1peter3:1,2). O, how beautiful is this woman’s soul.

Now I want to listen to these too! I just hope my rental car for my trip coming up has a jack for my iPod. Then I can listen to Pastor Mark while I'm blazin' a trail on the open road. That's what's good about being an acccountant sitting in front of a computer all day. I can just listen to just about everything, as long as I have my hed phones. This series is the Proverbs 2009 series that's not a Sunday message. It's a series done in one of the campuses. So far, the series include: Wisdom, Fear, the heart, Planning, Friendship. It's all very practical. I really like them. And I just went back and listened to the old Proverbs series dealing with relationship....man, I feel like I didn't listen to them the first time. Definitely something everyone should listen to before engaging in relationships.

One of my students in my orientation group had this on his blog and it spoke powerfully to me...I think it was his own experience. I said to the Lord, “Let me see my sin the way you see my sin.” and the Lord replied, “You couldn’t bear to see what I see.” With tears in my eyes I asked, “Why then do you love me?” and the Lord responded, “Because My grace is greater than your sin.” This is the hammer that breaks the rock, the hand that keeps us from drowning, this is grace. Grace is not only God (the creator of heaven and earth) looking upon the smallest of His creation but it is God stepping down from His throne to die for the sins of His creation.

Our Pastor has been preaching a series on gifting. To help those who are not aware of what their gift is to identify it and to encourage us to exercise our gift for the glory of God. He shares how we can benefit others through our gift as well as possible hazzards to be aware of if one has this gift. I pray this message will encourage and bless you. Jesus loves you, you should know, for the Bible tells you so. Little ones to Him belong, they are weak, but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves you. Yes, Jesus loves you. Yes! Jesus loves you, the Bible tells you so.

I have two messages to share ... "Forsaking and Replacing Wrong Thinking," parts one and two. Go to: http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/Answers_with_Bayless_Conley_TV/ then to the right you will find the broadcast archives and scroll down to the messages for June 6 and June 13. I encourage you to listen when you get a chance to ... it will be well worth your time. He is talking about how our own wrong thoughts about our circumstances can cause us to miss God's best for our lives. When Joshua finally went into the promise land Rahab informed the spies "I know that the LORD has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt ..." If you remember the first spies that went into the land 40 years earlier, all but Caleb and Joshua reported, "The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are of great height. And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim), and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them." Notice how the spies stated that the inhabitants of the land thought they (the Israelis) where like grasshoppers to them, yet Rahab tells Joshua that they were terrified of the Israelis because of their God. Their wrong thoughts (lies) led to wrong actions (disobeying God by being to frightened to step out in the promise He had given them). It is so important that we look at what God says over what we see with out eyes for He is the God of the impossible and the God of second, third, fourth ... chances. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 "For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete."

God's will and the bible Highly recommended....from RC Sproulx. I listened to this today.. good message. Interesting perspective on not testing God. I definitely never intentionally do this, but sometimes decisions have to be made in a short time frame and you need to make a judgment call based on facts, gut or (holy spirit nudging) and maybe one final action that doesn't really depend on God acting, but maybe another person. Anyways, I think his point was to be constantly seeking God so you don't get yourself in a position of doubting your decisions and then trying to test God to make it.

What i like about it is the heavy emphasize on relying on the Scriptures for guidance and not some subjective leading of the Holy SPirit. I liked the example he said about the 5 job opportunities and how 5 people came up to him saying "the Lord told me that this is the right job for you" on all five of them. It's so prevalent in the church culture to use the phrase the lord told me or the spirit spoke it in my heart which often times is just someone's opinion and not really leading by the spirit. Also, i like that it dispels the whole idea of fleeces, and testing God and other magical type of leading.

What i like about it is the heavy emphasize on relying on the Scriptures for guidance The challenge with relying "on Scripture only" for guidance is twofold. 1) It is not Biblical. 2) By doing so we are totally relying on our own (or even worse) someone elses interpretation of what the Scriptures are saying. quote:
not some subjective leading of the Holy SPirit. The Holy Spirits leading is not subjective. God is not subjective and the Holy Spirit is God. "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak, and He will disclose to you what is to come." John 16:13 The Spirit of truth does not lead us into confusion. for God is not a God of confusion but of peace..1 Cor 14:33 quote:
. It's so prevalent in the church culture to use the phrase the lord told me or the spirit spoke it in my heart which often times is just someone's opinion and not really leading by the spirit. I agree. That is why we are commanded to test the spirits. Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1 quote:
I liked the example he said about the 5 job opportunities and how 5 people came up to him saying "the Lord told me that this is the right job for you" on all five of them. I get this from time to time also, as most of us do who attend churches who believe in the gifts and fruits of the Spirit. When I am approached by someone who has a word of knowledge for me I thank them for their concern and for their thoughtfulness in feeling led to share it with me. Sometimes If I don't feel the Spirit dismiss it immediately I will take it to private prayer before the Father and ask for discernment. To follow Scripture only and dismiss the leading and gifts of the Holy Spirit is to deny the very teaching of Scripture that one claims to be led by! But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit.. 1 Cor 12:7,8 For those who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. Romans 8:14 Pray and ask the Lord for discernment in all things.

ORIGINAL: SamsonUSA quote:
What I like about it is the heavy emphasis on relying on the Scriptures for guidance. The challenge with relying "on Scripture only" for guidance is twofold. 1) It is not biblical. 2) By doing so, we are totally relying on our own or (even worse) someone else's interpretation of what the Scriptures are saying. quote:
not some subjective leading of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirits leading is not subjective. God is not subjective, and the Holy Spirit is God. Perhaps PH meant the person's interpretation of what he/she is feeling, which he/she attributes, subjectively, to the Holy Spirit.

I love the book of Samuel. The message is entitled "Encourage yourself in the Lord" I pray that you are blessed by it. http://www.calvaryphx.com/calvarylive/?id=3138
