How come you don't celebrate Christmas? Is is because you don't think Jesus was born in December or because you don't want to or something else?

I've found it best to keep such explanations OUT of chat threads, so that they don't become debate threads.

I have to do something that is scaring me. Something that is stressing me out. In order to graduate I have to take Algebra next semester. Actaully I first have to take a math placement test to find out which math class I belong in. I really, really, really, don't want to. I have a math phobia I believe it brought on by my many bad math teachers.

((( hug ))) You have my heartfelt sympathies and my steadfast, faithful prayers. I, too, have a "screaming math anxiety" and will be forever grateful that I managed to finish school (even getting a doctorate), without having taken any college math classes.

Check with your school NOW to see what sort of math assistance and math tutors and math help are available.

I've also heard that Algebra for Dummies can be useful.

I hate math. I don't even want to take calculus, but I might just so I can get in to get a PhD. I took precal and contemporary math (people think contemp. math is easy, but at my university both that math and precal could kill). I ended up going to a comm. college to take precal, and I basically aced it because it was so much easier (although some comm. colleges are difficult); I'd started taking it at my univ., but it was very hard and ALL word problems. People actually told me that the cal. I there was easier than the precal. Anyway, a lot of it depends on the school's hardness and the professor. We did have a free math tutor on certain days of the week, and a lot of people said that helped. You might also be able to find a student who tutors at reasonable rates.

Do you guys send out Christmas cards? My list has shortened over the years and I don't send as many now. What about those "life letters" that families send out?

I have tried, and I am HORRIBLE at getting them sent out. They just sit there put together, addresses put on, and I forget. So I gave up. Now I do emails sometimes if I am part of a card exchange...but mostly, nope, nothing. I have never done the letter thing, but I get them from some people and it is great to read about their year. I have just not had too much opportunity to do them. Our life changes so much from year to year though that I should start doing that.

Where else do you all hang out???

On cw I have just a few folders bookmarked and I don't generally go out of them unless I really am totally bored. WO, Maternity, Parenting, H&G TV/Radio. Any other folder I have to go to the main page and find, so I don't very often.
Other then this forum, I go to:
Facebook...of course. (Or as Sandy calls it- crackbook )
a private forum I am part of
a scrapbooking forum (Scrap Girls)

I don't want a leaf blower...but I DO want a mulcher...that would br great!!!

Ya, Harvie, post in there. We won't eat you alive, just maybe pick at ya a bit.

I'd love to know why you don't because I'm thinking it's the same reasons I go back and forth about.

Anyway, the people next door had landscapers over today and that's who was doing all the leaf blowing and they were blowing some into the street. Great, they'll just blow back into either their yard or someone elses. Oh, they picked up most of the yard, but the leaves on the parkway got blown into the street.

My wonderful DH surprised me this evening by coming home early enough to take me out to dinner ... yay! We went to a neighborhood Italian restaurant we really like. We split the "appetizer special" (bruschetta and sweet potato fries), then I had the balsamic steak salad with crumbled blue cheese ... yum! My taste buds are still dancing happily!

<--- tastebuds!

My wonderful DH has to be AT work by 5am tomorrow (yuck!), which means he needs to leave here by 4:30am... so I expect that he'll be grabbing a shower and heading to bed sooner rather than later. I think we hit 85 degrees today, but tomorrow it's cooling down and will only be 72!! Woo hoo!!! I checked the 10-day forecast and I think we've seen the last of the 80s for the year!!!

I spent part of the afternoon playing with my camera, shooting the cats and the house. I got a few nice shots, I thought ... in case anyone was interested.

$25.00???? yikes! I guess I have to do what I have to do.

I don't mind sending her another check, but I do mind having a fee because she wouldn't sort her mail (she said it was too overwhelming, I said, well, put all your mail in a basket, and take out one piece whenever you go by, and deal with that one piece). Now she just told me on the phone not to send another check because she was going to send the same amount for my birthday and we can call it even. I wanted to send her $, though, becuase I DID use her food, and I DID use her utilities.

Well, there was a $17.00 charge for the returned to check. On the other hand we agreed that because of what she was planning to send for my birthday (the same amt. as my original check) we just won't send each other anything. So, in a way I saved $. But now I still have to buy another thank you card.

Singles, morality and ethics, television and radio, home and garden, home school support, public and private school support, parenting, did PFY for a while but haven't lately, marriage, he says, she says, feedback and info, community lounge, finances, college and career, books.... yes I am all over the map.....but I've met so many people that way......I recently talked to someone that mainly stays in one folder and I was surprised at how many CW people that person didn't know of. I've tried and tried to post someting that will stay in misc. but it always gets moved to Community Lounge, so I don't bother with misc. anymore.

Off of CW I am on facebook

Saraimay, I feel your pain..I HATED math....had to pass and fail it many times...worst of all my mom is a math major. It finally started to click for me when a (college) teacher (the first good math teacher I ever had besides my mom and an 8th grade teacher) told me to think of the problems as fun puzzles.

I would encourage you to get a tutor, and if your teacher makes you feel anxious go to the admin and seek another one immediately.

Can you go for a pre school certificate instead of a full AA in order to avoid the math requirement? We can do that here, but I know each state is different.

Well, it's after 11pm and I was going to head to bed ... but one of my all-time favorite movies is on Turner Classic Movies .... so I'm up watching "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers!" (1954 ... with Howard Keel and Jane Powell) I seem to be a sucker for musicals that I really love! You know what's REALLY silly? We have this one on DVD! (grin)

Megan just came by ... she's our 2-year-old grey tabby girl. I find her purrs pretty irresistable ... she loves head scratchies and cheek rubbies and back scritchies and head bonks! Anyway, she's now been most thoroughly petted!

I totally would have done the same thing! Esp for anything with Howard Keel! How's the print quality of your DVD copy? I have it on VHS but it's kinda grainy. My favorite Howard Keel movie is a tossup between Seven Brides and Calamity Jane, despite the lack of mustache (and historical inaccuracies, and casting of a gorgeous Doris Day as a woman who was supposed to be plain).

I love movie musicals in general. All time favorite musical scene: I Left My Hat in Haiti from Royal Wedding. I have no idea why I love that scene so much but I will often watch just that scene and skip the rest of the movie (even though it's got great scenes like Fred Astaire dancing on the ceiling, and How Could You Believe Me When I Said I Loved You When You Know I've Been A Liar All My Life.

Now I really want to watch a musical. My inlaws keep bugging me for a birthday list; I am tempted to send them a bunch of links to movie musicals I'd love to add to my collection.

Why are banks and such getting the swine flu shots? It'd make more sense to me to give them to docs/clinics and let those who work there who are high- risk get in line like everyone else.

I head this on the View this morning. GoldmanSaks? I know that because dh works for local government if there's a disaster he and we get first dibs on stuff. Don't know exactly what that means, but I think it's because he would have to help out and should be prepared.

Harvie, love the photos.

I just find it strange that there are docs and nurses who haven't had the shot-- and some of them are high-risk in addition to being constantly around the ill, but bankers are getting their own supply. I'm sure some of them are high-risk as well, but I guess I'm just wondering about the "why" part and the rationale.
