agapetos -> Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 8:17:59 PM)

Ok... ladies aren't supposed to go into the 'Mens Only' folder and men aren't supposed to go into the 'Women Only' folder and non-Christians aren't supposed to go into the 'Christians Only' folder... that's great! [:D] Honest it is!

Please do something about the Latest Threads in My Forums... because it doesn't say where a thread came from... and how are we supposed to keep out of certain folders if we can just click on a link in there and be taken to it...

And then, get into trouble for going into a folder that we're not meant to...

I've posted about this before and there was no response, so am doing so again...

And the reason I'm annoyed is that I nearly went into the Mens Only folder AGAIN a few minutes ago...

Please, please, please either get rid of it, or have the thread origins or something... just do something...

Thank you

Darcyjo -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 8:21:36 PM)

Obviously, I'm not the ONLY one who has had this problem! Please, put where the threads come from! I found myself half-way through reading a post, thinking it was in Relationships, only it was in Men's....come on, please!

humbleinspirit -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 8:21:57 PM)

Hi Aga, you mean not post in them, but still can read them, right? [:)]

Darcyjo -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 8:24:51 PM)

Mike, we aren't even supposed to be READING them, but the My Forum page shows the last five threads posted in WITHOUT showing where they are from......and I've heard complaints from more than one person about it......you click on it, because it looks interesting, and you are in the WRONG folder!

I've complained about this before, Aga has complained, at least one other of my friends has complained......something DOES need to be done!

Kath -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 8:25:38 PM)

no, Mike, the rules in mens/womens says...

quote:

please do not post or browse in this Folder. Failure to comply with this request may result in further action up to and including your account being disabled.

humbleinspirit -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 8:28:14 PM)

WOW, is this a new rule? Not that I have been reading anything at all, or if I have, it has not been intentional or being aware of this new rule until now.

agapetos -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 8:28:33 PM)

Sorry if I didn't make myself very clear in the op...

agapetos -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 8:30:05 PM)

Mike... the rule has been there since almost when we came over... hence the titles of the folders

Women Only
Christians Only
Men Only

humbleinspirit -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 8:30:05 PM)

No Aga, you were clear, I just minsunderstood that there was now a new rule regarding this was all.

humbleinspirit -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 8:53:57 PM)

Needless to say since I am "now" aware of this rule, I will be following it to the fullest extent of the law.

denbert -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 9:16:34 PM)

Well you may not be following it if you accidently click on something that looks interesting from the latest threads section in My Forums. Darcy and I discovered this the first couple of days. This is kinda like hiding a speed limit sign behind the bush with a cop and his radar gun down the street.

I NEVER use the Latest Thread feature just for the reason I may end up in a forum I'm not supposed to be in. And oh by the way, at the top of every thread, it's public knowledge you're there.

Darcyjo -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 9:19:41 PM)

Yep![sm=icon_smile_blush.gif]

Yesterday, I waltzed right into the middle of a pretty explicit conversation![sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif] The title gave not a clue.......but about a minute into my reading I realized that SOMETHING was up......and closed the window!

I don't go looking for trouble, but it would be nice if it wasn't so easy to walk into![sm=icon_smile_roll.gif][sm=aside.gif]

humbleinspirit -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 9:20:10 PM)

OK, the truth be told back in the old forums there was a thread in mens issues called "Men Not Having Issues" in which women went in and started a thread called "Issues with Men Not Having Issues" or something like that. It basically encouraged both men and women to read the other folder!

So recently when I saw that there was the same kind of thread in Mens issues, I went into Women's issues ONLY to see if there was another thread that was identical to mens issues or not? There wasn't, so I lost interest. I may have read a thread here and there while being over there too out curiousity.

agapetos -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 9:31:50 PM)

I remember that thread Mike... or the fuss about them...

Now, and rightly so, you are asked not to go into the other thread or folders at all - even out of curiousity... which again I have no problem with...

But people have and are going to end up going to the wrong threads because of the 'Latest Threads' section in My Forums...

old forums, old rules! [;)]

humbleinspirit -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 9:33:33 PM)

I am ok with that, but I just feel like that I did not get the new memo at all. [&:]

humbleinspirit -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 9:34:51 PM)

BTW, also lets not forget that a lot of my posts in the mens thread ended up being used for quotes by women in the womens folder as well.

agapetos -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 9:47:32 PM)

Mike... I don't know about your posts being used for quotes... but that was CW, not here...

There was no memo about who could and couldn't go into a folder... but if you go to the 'Forums' page and scroll down to the Men Only or Women Only you will see it state clearly that is is 'Men Only' or Women Only'...

Also, once you open the folder there's a thread for rules, requestion (in the Womens folder) that men read it... and I presume the same can be said for the mens...

humbleinspirit -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/2/2005 9:58:19 PM)

Yes, I have seen the men only and the women only, however in light of how things been done in the past, I just thought that meant that you could not post in there at all, which has always been the rule before.

Mike, that is all in the past, new place, new rules.

No one got the memo, one is suppose to read a post when it says "please read". [;)]

grammax9 -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/3/2005 9:07:34 AM)

I, too, would like to know what thread I am going into before I waste my time in, lets say, Extreme Teens. (Sorry, teens!)

I am still surprised when I end up in threads I would never choose to follow or post in, that I find myself reading and trying to figure out if there is some joke going on or if I've missed something, before finally scrolling to the name of the thread.

May we please have at least an indication of what the name of the thread is before we click on it?!

Don't feel bad, Mike, I thought the same thing. It wouldn't have occurred to me to read the post at the beginning of each folder because I would have assumed it was the same. It takes a while to figure out what all is new since the change (I have spent much more time in the "Feedback" folder since the move than I ever did in all my time combined at CW.)

Like you, I don't go over to Men's anyway (kinda scary in there!!) except for when there was some good-natured teasing and perusal back and forth a while back, and occasionally when there was a topic of interest. Now that I know the new rules, I won't be in there at all.

I don't go into threads through the "Latest threads" (I don't think I had even discovered that yet), but I agree that if we are not supposed to go into certain threads, there needs to be a way to avoid doing so innocently and embarrassing ourselves.

laura... -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/3/2005 9:19:21 AM)

At the bottom of the "Latest Threads" list is a link that says "Posts Since Last Visit". That link will take you to a page that shows all the most recent posts ordered by time. It will also show you what forum they are in, the author, the last poster, etc.

Abbreviated -> RE: Latest Thread in 'My Forum'... please do something... (5/3/2005 11:44:26 AM)

I answered a poll then realized I was in Singles so I didn't post about the poll.

Laura... I hear what you're saying, but surely the point of 'Latest Threads is to cut out links... to click 'posts since last visit' is adding links, and can probably be achieved other ways...

I nearly clicked on a link last night (which is why I started this thread) but did a search for the thread title (infact I did that several times last night) and found out what folder a thread was in...

If we're expected to click on a 'posts since last visit' link in order to find out what folder a thread is in in 'latest topics' why on earth bother having a 'latest topics'? Why not just have a link in 'my forums' that says 'posts since latest visit'?
